Why not buy a 77/72mm step down ring for around $10 I have several Singray 82mm filters and use a 82/77mm step down ring with no loss in filter quality or vignetting

I believe what is appropriate for a 72mm lens barrel thread and a 77mm filter is a 72/77mm step-UP ring. But the suggestion to keep the high quality S-R filter and simply get a lens adapter is a good one, gtwhogger. Only possible draw back is if the OP uses a lens hood on a regular basis.
