It's winter where I live
Do you assume this comp is only for those who live in the good old us of a?
Don

I'm not sure if any of this comment was aimed at me? I do not live in America but it is summer here also (if you can call it summer with all the flash floods etc). Bet you have a lot of rain in Auckland. The majority of the users on here seem to be from USA. Therefore I would imagine the majority of the entries will come from archives.

Anybody can enter the comp and neither myself nor St3v3m is discriminating against anybody. At first glance I thought the past 3 challenges have been biased more towards the USA (with red, white and blue - Dog days of summer - and now Ice cold to follow on from the last one) but with imagination anybody, anywhere in the world can capture an image that fits the theme.

Humn? Isn't the Union Jack Red, White and Blue? Dog Days of Summer - what does that really mean any way? And Ice Cold - I could take a picture in Cape Town with the snow and win it all. None of that is from the US! I'll get around to everyone...

I did say "at first glance". I then went on to defend you!

i) The red white and blue tied in with 4th of July Independence day and my submission was a red, white and blue union jack with a gerbil on it. Mental really as Independence day stands for Americas independence from Great Britain.

ii) I asked the meaning of Dog days and it was described as being an american saying. Until then I knew nothing about the meaning of this. Tea8 gave me the idea of going with something that makes me feel like doing nothing. I will blame her for me getting zero votes (Not really her description was grand)!

iii) You said yourself that this Ice cold challenge stems as a good follow on from the heat of the last challenge. It really has got me thinking and boy I never knew there was so much behind the physics of Ice.

I'm completely new at this forum and contest idea, and somewhat new to photography. I have submitted a photo and a comment in the last two days, so for me, this was the challenge. I LOVE photography and always have some kind of a camera with me, but I hardly ever show my work to anyone. So, even though this was an archived photo and taken quickly in a midst of a small break in a large crowd, I finally took a step and put one out there. Hopefully, I will gain knowledge and learn some great techniques from all these wonderful photos and photographers.

Thank you and thank yourself for taking a big step outside of what you were used to. You exemplify the reason for the challenge and I thank you for it. Good luck!

John Rains has only made one post as far as I can see and that was the one above. This is almost like having a sign post stating "Please do not throw stones at this notice".

Besides even if there are submissions the T&C's state they are irrevocable and therefore can not be retracted. They always get you with the small print.

This is true but he does have a valid point. I see no reason for this. I thought this forum was for education and information. Why do they need to try and take our rights to our photos? This isn't a business and I am not an employee where all my work belongs to them.

It does make me think. Makes me wonder if I should be posting a link to photos on my web site instead of posting the photos here.

They follow a very strict legal protocol, for instance at the bottom of every email they include a unique tag line so they know if you request to be removed from the site, etc. I am sure the policy follows along the same lines. And really unless you are going to sell your photo then who cares. ADMIN may be able to clear it up more if you are really curious though.

that every poet is a fool;
But as you yourself may show it,
every fool is not a poet."

Again, no offense meant, just a memory that surfaced unbidden from the depths.
