I dropped my Sony a6000 on a hard surface, the camera no longer pops out the lens when turned on or will recognize the lens (16-50mm). The message is "cannot recognize the lens, attach it properly" The camera will display the menu and will show photos on the camera card. I can't see any damage to the lens, mount or the camera body and the lens goes on and off the camera easily. I can see light through the optical view finder and the back lcd display with the camera on and the lens removed. The lens and camera contacts look clean. Any ideas on testing the camera/lens under these conditions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Millismote

Does it act like this with any lens or just the one that was on it when you drop it?

I just want to know where you found an a6000 with an optical viewfinder?????
One of the pins might be bent, on the camera or lens, do you have another lens?

I dropped my A5000 and got the same error message. Borrowed a Sony lens from a friend and it turned out my lens was damaged. Elected to buy a used lens rather than repair.

Closure is good, especially when the money sting isn’t over the top. 😎
Had similar problem with A6300 tried another lens still same problem had to have camera repaired by Sony, though camera was not dropped, may be software problem.

I did the same thing with my NEX-7 years ago. The 16-50 lens is the problem. There is a connecting bundle inside the lens that breaks off of it's electrical connections when dropped. Buy a new lens, the camera is probably fine. Go to your nearest retailer and put a lens on the camera to test it.
It sounds like something got bent or dented and given the lens doesn't extent I would suspect something associated with lens mechanism. My first step would be to a Sony authorized repair service. Do you have a reliable camera store nearby. Could be a good time to trade up to the a6300.
Sounds like a contact problem. Would definitely send it in.
Same thing happened to me, just bought another lens on ebay. Don't think that it is worth fixing.
