I am going to Ireland for two weeks and don't want to take heavier larger Nikon D90. Looking for a good compact, water resistant camera that can withstand a fall and good battery life. I Will be doing a lot of hiking and outdoor activities. Any photo/travel suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

Thanks...you are fast.
You are welcome. It is just an all round action camera that is great for hiking, getting caught in the rain or what ever and not having to worry about it. Including washing dirt and dust off to keep it clean.
Have fun on your hike.

Hi, Jim. I am going beginning of May for about 2 weeks...staying in Dublin for a few days at the start and end of time in Ireland and going on Vagabond Tour (south and west coasts) for 8 days...
Very hard to beat the Oly TG-5

I had to switch computers to answer this. My mouse and keyboard weren't cooperating.
The good news is that you literally have too many choices. That's also the bad news. I've often traveled with a little compact camera in a belt case. I would never want to take a pleasure trip with a DSLR. Now, I would take my Sony A6000 with either the 16-50mm or Tamron 18-270mm lens, probably the 16-50.

My standard travel package is to use two Sony pocket camera's that fit into individual belt pouches. Leaves me HANDS FREE for hiking and outdoor activities and for photo/travel. Travel right and travel lite.
Sony RX100M2 with the 28-100mm f1.8 Zeiss T* lens and the Sony HX90V with a 24-720mm Zeiss T* lens. Between these two, I can photograph almost anything, both camera's have a panoramic feature. Both have rear curtain and slow flash for beautiful balanced fill flash.
I don't know if any pocket style camera is water proof or water resistant. I have shot in heavy fog without a problem but avoid rain like a plague.

OLY TG-5. Why load yourself down with gear unless its a photo shoot ? Enjoy your trip.
I am planning a trip to Germany. The Sony Rx10 1V with 24-600mm Zeiss lens, was highly recommended to me. Two weeks ago I bought it.
The learning curve is steep, but worth the effort. It looks like many cameras in one, and perfect for traveling.
Good luck.
That TG-5 Olympus will do everything you need it to on this and many more trips. A waterproof Pentax was my very first digital camera way back in 2006, an it was my only camera for years; always in my pocket, always ready for whatever was going on. I'm sure that since then, the pocketable waterproof cameras have made huge advances so you will be more than satisfied with this Olympus, or any other of the fine adventure cameras on the market.
It depends on what you want to do with the photos. Photo book? Show friends? Print some for framing? Your camera's IQ requirements will vary based on your objectives. Read the comparison reviews of bridge cameras and, instead of relying on the reviewer's overall choice read the entire review and pick the one that best fulfills what you want. It's all in the trade-offs between the cameras, so pick based on your own needs. The reviews will compare them along a number of different criteria. And read more than just one review.
