They don't want to do it. The only reason he suggested that is that the nra wants him to!

Is there some reason we can't hire unemployed veterans as armed guards at schools?

Good God what is this nation coming too???? We need a change in attitude and common sense. Teachers across the US will walk away in droves if this nonsense continues. Wayne La Pierre is a fucking whack job. The NRA will no longer receives any further funds from me.

First off President Trump is NOT requiring a teacher to carry a gun. If his suggestion is carried forward it would be only if the teacher would like to carry a concealed weapon. The teacher would be trained and continue the training like on an annual basis. His suggestion would also mean the teacher would receive extra pay, like hazardous duty pay.

Your suggestion to hire unemployed veterans is commendable. I would carry it further. The veteran would still require further training. Also, I would like to see the veterans volunteer for this. They would go through the necessary training. As a volunteer, they could work like one day a week or 10 hours weekly and without pay. Their pay would be they would be exempt from paying any further income tax while in this volunteer position. This could also go for any retired police officers. By exempting the from paying any income taxes the cost is very minimal and the State and Federal governments would not be heavily affected in loss of income.

The whole idea is to harden these soft targets. We can't continue to allow these cowards continued access to our schools. Our children deserve a safe and secure place to study no matter what kind of neighborhood they live in. I for one do not like the idea of rifles being carried around a school even by trained security guards. Lets listen to the proposals that come out and hopefully our legislators will work together for our childrens safety.

Who runs the country, NRA or trump.
The mentality of fighting fire with Fire, is, in this case, imbecilic.
Teachers are trained to be teachers, they have the added responsibility of reporting any perceived child abuse, drug taking, mental issues etc. Apart from keeping calm in the playground, address bullying.
Yeah, great! Throw another string to their bow, train them as mercenaries too.
Put the old burnt out, shell shocked vets in there. They gonna die soon anyway. Plenty where they come from.
It's just inviting crack pots for a stoush.
The country is still living in the "Wild West" mentality. It's high time to do something positive & get a collective grip of yourself.
Control your guns, ALL guns.

I am more than a little alarmed at the prospect of "training" civilians or having retired veterans standing guard in any public place. For many, being a veteran does not automatically imply the ability to carry out such responsibilities. Much, much training would need to be provided and a very clear description of what their intended role would be. The liabilities are mind-boggling. Just my two cents from personal experience and observation.

Would you rather them carry body bags?

What you just asserted is called a false dilemma - a logical fallacy.

"A false dilemma is a type of informal fallacy in which something is falsely claimed to be an "either/or" situation, when in fact there is at least one additional option. A false dilemma can arise intentionally, when a fallacy is used in an attempt to force a choice or outcome"

Already the SRO’s that are armed are the first to run and hide!!!
So now we’re gonna stick a bunch of broken down Vets that can’t get a job to do the job.
Retired means 65 years old. That’s almost to
Old to do anything but suddenly they can handle working g again.
What’s next, arming the welfare recipients I. One of PUTOS’s smart, work for your money???
MOST of the shooters DON’T plan to come out alive. They either get shot or commit suicide. So an old man with a pistol in his boot that can’t even see straight, let alone run from one side of school to the other without having a fricking heart attack is just gonna run up the body count!
If those stupid, f*cking rednecks want safer schools they just need to give more money to schools to remodel them in a safe layout with remote locking doors but they’re the FIRST ones to v**e down school money cause they want vouchers!!!
With luck the NRA will burn in HELL before it destroys the school system more than hypocritical bastards both here and there already have!!!
I’ll bet 30 billion dollars in wall money could go a long way to make schools safer!!!

The issue is NOT "school safety". The issue is crazy people getting possession of weapons of mass destruction. Schools are easy, soft targets. If we "harden" those targets, the next crazy person with an AR or AK will just pick a church, a movie theater, the highway, the beach, a large open concert, etc. There are TWO common denominators to these shootings. One is CRAZY, and the other is HIGH-CAPACITY SEMI-AUTOMATIC WEAPONS. BOTH of those issues need to be addressed for all of us to be safe from random shootings. Trump already rolled back an Obama-era regulation making it harder for mentally ill folks to get weapons - so we cannot expect much common sense from him. All the NRA puppets will be real busy mouthing platitudes about "school safety", just to avoid addressing the real problem.

Arming MORE people - this is the NRA making lemonade out of lemons. Sell more guns is their mantra.

Normally I agre with most of what you say. I do, however, have to disagree with your description of "broken down vets". There are plenty of vets that are no near being "broken" down. I never mentioned the word "retired", I did say "unemployed" these folks are no where near 65, but in their late 20's. Don't discount vets, they stood up for their country when others wouldn't. Most notably trump who is a coward.
