I had heard rumors that select Best Buy stores were going to install dedicated camera departments with more than just run of the mill equipment and staff them with camera knowledgeable people.
Well, as I am in Las Cruces, NM taking a workshop from a great landscape photographer (Wayne Suggs, look him up on FB), I took a side trip to El Paso, Tx. during a lull in the action and found myself in such a Best Buy. They had just about everything from every major camera maker, but the knowledgeable staff part was a myth. The kids were nice and tried to be helpful, but the didn't know as much as my little dog about all the great stuff they had.
What they did have was a Canon 16-35 f2.8 that I have been lusting after. Long story short, 12 months same as cash and an impulse buy, and I am the proud owner of a 2,000 lens that I may or may not REALLY need.
If you are lucky enough to have one of these stores near you, it is a great opportunity to have same hands on time with stuff you can't normally find if you are not close to a real camera shop. And if you are implusive, you just might end up with something you might or might not REALLY need.

You had a 'GAS' attack eh Bill?
You know GAS is really a way to say we spend to much on our hobbies are passions. We are over spenders.
And I say art, photography, cinema and creativity is a lifestyle. That today's camera's can do so many amazing
things that we didn't have in the past. Imagine if Cartier-Bresson had the Canon or Panasonic GH or the Sony
a7r III. I don't like jewelry but I sure liked the Nikon cameras I was fortunate to have over the years. I think
some cameras were built to last. Mostly for pro intensive work. You can get quality cameras and lens
for fair prices. I have a 70-200 f4 Sony lens and I think it is amazing. GAS is the passion of wanting to
create images and stories and document life. So don't feel guilty. Enjoy your passion. You only live one life.

I am always a fan of OPM purchases, especially with no interest!
I am lusting over that lens too. I have the original 16-35 f/2.8

I was in Las Cruces last year for the Day of the Dead marathons. Had blast. Great area.
I've purchased several cameras and lenses from the Best Buy in northern Delaware. One year no interest and no sales tax. If they don't have something in stock they will order it.
yeah, they have a really good selection of cameras and lenses and even peripheral stuff, but the sales staff is pretty much clueless.
I have the EF 16-35 2.8L II lens. I like it. Some people say it's not sharp enough. I have no complaints about mine.
I would get that lens if I never planned to do star photography or milky way photos which work best at f/2.8

Congratulations. You do REALLY need it! Trust me!
I have the old (mark II) version and absolutely love it. Do you see a significant improvement in IQ as compared with the II? Also, does the III have IS?

👍
Absolutely, “horses for courses”. I like mine mainly because I tend towards handheld for most of my photography; the IS is so good on this lens that I can shoot in very low light, at extremely sssllllooooowwwww shutter speeds. Handheld.
I would be thrilled if the Best Buy in Dover would put in a Photo Center. We have no camera stores near me. We also have no sales tax.
