Seems like I saw one post on this topic but it was not very helpful. Would someone please explain which one I should be using. Thanks.

Quite simple - if you want the best quality images with the greatest dynamic range to use in post processing, use RAW.

The real question is whether to set the camera for RAW or RAW+JPEG. I use RAW only, which means all pictures have to go through post processing (Lightroom Classic CC strongly recommended). If you also store JPEG, you have lower quality images available immediately.

Hope this helps

Geesus. How did you come up with that? Does the search function actually work? I thought it was dysfunctional since no one ever uses it.

No, I didn't search. It was recent topic that I saw it this morning. (If the correct (and relative words) are used in the title it should show up in a search as the search is done on the title.) i.e., The title of "Question" is worthless for searching.

I like RAW because <for me> it's simpler to adjust white balance and a few other things in the RAW editor (Canon's DPP) than either of my JPEG editors. And yes, you have all of the picture data available in a RAW editor. I do shoot both as I can initially peruse the JPEGs in Windows Explorer to see what I want to work with. I'm not concerned with storage as I'd rather have both formats available to me.

Apparently, as has been pointed out in other threads, the best search function for this site is Google Advanced. Just restrict the search to www.uglehedgehog.com

RAW is easier to spell than JPG...so that's what I use.

This probably works better because Google will search the page (topic) body as well. As long as the pertinent words are used in the body of the topic, it should find things better.

Siriusly?! (Woof, woof) someone said raw is easier to spell than jpg but as both have 3 letters, that is not accurate. RAW is easier to say than jpg so that's my choice.

The RAW from my dig cam are so flat. I don't understand what all the hoopla is about.

Raw is like a religion - you must believe in it, accept it and practice it - and preach others to follow ! 8-)
