Get Irfanview (free) and also get the plug-ins for it. Start the program, open a photo, click on Image > Information > Exif info. Or you can just press I and/or E to get lots of info.
Get ExifInfo - also free. Unzip and get the icon onto the Desktop. Find a photo and drag it onto the icon. A window will open with loads of info. Look down the list for Shutter Count (or whatever they call it).

I upgraded to D500. Best camera ever. I saw some last night refub at the Nikon site. You're really due for an upgrade.

Can I get my shutter count if I upgrade?

I used to anguish over the same question with my Exakta VX, until one time in Peru an old Inca shaman clued me in on quipu. I modified the system a bit, tying a granny knot to indicate a bad exposure and a bow knot when I nailed it. I use a different color thread for each of my cameras. Works for me!

I use myshuttercount.com and its works great. It may take a few minutes just wait. I usually go in and load up my last shot. It has been awhile I think I will check all my cameras now. Thanks

You're not going to stop are you? If you really want to do this right you're going to have to create the identical 8 or 10 threads every week or so, but with very slight variations.

If you are worried about shutter count, get a mirrorless camera. I don't think shutter count is quite the same issue since there are no moving parts inthe shutter.

If you have a MAC and Nikon this is an easy way to find shutter count. Here is a link.

No software needed. Preview has the ability to give you shutter count.
