From a sub-zero morning much like this morning.

The temperature had been below zero all night with low clouds blowing through the hills. There was a layer of frost coating everything as the sun tried to burn its way through the clouds.

Great shot. In the foothills? Near where? I only wish I had more time to shoot the area between Castle Rock and south Denver. It's been beautiful like this for a whole day.

Shiver me timbers, I can feel the cold just looking at this photograph.
Well taken.

A classic to depict delicate beauty. So I see that cottonwoods don't always have to be draped in yellow to be beautiful, but your photographic window is much, much narrower. Glad you caught it, and thank-you for sharing.

I love this, it as exceptionally beautiful image.

I love winter photography. Unfortunately for us here in the west, winter seems to have past us by.

Thanks for sharing,
Mike

Thank you! This was just inside the foothills south west of Sedalia, probably at about 6,600' elevation. I'd been watching this tree for several years waiting for the right conditions to give me the shot I'd seen in my minds eye.

I am sure I have driven by this tree although I haven't been up the road in some time. Your patience has been rewarded.

I have been driving past a tree that has had a pair of Red Tail Hawks raising their young for the last five years. Late last year I finally acquired the 400mm to 800mm angle of view needed for proper shooting. This winter, one of the wind storms blew the nest out of the tree (as you know, winds in the foothills sometimes reach 90 mph). Now I have the lense, but now I have to hunt for a new subject.

Cool indeed. This was one of those days that your hand is so numb that you know the exposure has been made by listening for the sound of the shutter. :-)
