The Hood comes with the $16,000+. Just don't lose it, it will be expensive to replace.

Lol! that's what I was going to say... $16,299.00 for the lens (oh and it comes with the lens hood). So that one is for someone that was stupid and lost the $1000 lens hood.
Accessories included with the lens:

HK-38 Lens Hood
$1,078.96

LN-2 Lens Strap
$41.96

CT-801 Trunk Case
$634.96

52mm Screw-on NC Filter
$49.00

LF-4 Rear Lens Cap
$4.50

The Nikon 600mm that comes with the camera is "only" $530. I am very careful with mine. The hood for the Canon 600mm is $700.

Yes and it's a good lens. This particular 800mm lens though is a professional lens and has a 5.6 aperture. It is also designed to be able to be used with Nikon's teleconverter which will make it a 1000 mm lens.
The longest lens in the NIKKOR lineup, delivering 800mm of exceptional full-frame super-telephoto power (1000mm with the included 1.25x teleconverter) and the latest advancements in optical design and lens technology. Suprisingly compact and lightweight with a magnesium-alloy barrel and dust- and moisture-resistant construction, this is the definitive long-reach lens for sports, news and wildlife photographers.

We put it (with the teleconverter) onto a Nikon 1 and it's roughly 2.7 crop factor which made that lens act like a 2700mm lens. We were in Long Island and joking about looking into an apartment window in Boston. And yes, the lens was mounted on a tripod. Note: on a DX, that lens setup would be roughly equivalent to a 1500mm lens.

There was an ebay auction a number of years ago where a lens hood for a Nikon wide angle rangefinder lens (21mm, IIRC) went for something like $5,555. Ended up as a bidding war between two major Nikon collectors, for an item of which there were believed to be no more than about 12 examples in existence, and the one on auction was in mint condidtion with the original box. Rarity and "need" will drive prices to levels that those of us without the need can't really understand.

Check out the ONE review: "I bought it because it looked cool ... "! (and only one star - I guess it wasn't *that* cool)
