I've done that a lot with outdoor model photo shoots. I take only my Tamron 45mm f/1.8 SP VC lens. I just have to move a little more than I would with a zoom lens.

I saw that lens at a workshop. I looks like a great one. And so tough getting closer to your models instead of shouting from as far away as my 90mm keeps me on my APS-C camera.

Just take the idea of a challenge to get out of a comfort zone. Adorama Learning Center and Gavin Hoey do an one camera one lens time limited shoot. They are very entertaining and instructive. And you can make the photo you want by expanding technique and positioning.

Not good for a steady diet, perhaps, but an idea for when a "what shall I shoot today" comes along.

Completely off subject but have you ever considered? We all know that not anything beats a prime for resolution. So why don't we all use primes more often? Simple. They are a hassle to carry and not quick to change. Someday . . . when we are all gone, some inventive optical genius will figure out how to mount a simple, light-weight turret on a still camera with 3-4 different optical focal length lenses. No, it won't be called a zoom lens, either. Bolex, Arriflex and others did it with 16mm film and even the old BNCR 35mm Mitchells had turrets. Early television cameras used turret lenses as well. Lens structure would need to change but with cameras increasingly being auto-idiot boxes, at a given point, lens barrels and T-stops will no longer be there to grab and with that, lens structure should get lighter and more portable. Me? I love to shoot manual because it forces me to constantly keep my head into what I'm doing and how I can improve the image with T-stops, Shutter speeds, shutter angles, ISO and stopping long enough to say to myself, "Is this really the best you can do, pal?" That's why I enjoy shooting medium format. It slows you down just enough to whisper, "Eat your heart out, Ansel." And this little voice in your head replies, "Not on your best day with all the angels singing in heaven."

Easily done - my camera only has one lens; however, it is a 16X zoom lens

One lens only? My Nikkor 55mm Macro. Have photographed everything from flowers to landscapes with this lens. Have used it on both my D7100 and D850. I use the bipedal human zoom where necessary. Take your challenge to use one lens only, now shoot in monochrome too!
