A terrific article. Compared to these glass growers we photographers are technical beginners. Very humbling to have this well written story give us a glimpse into such an ambitious project. Thanks for posting.

This answers one of my ongoing questions "what is the highest resolution camera in the world?" Answer found in this article is "3.8-gigapixel digital camera, the largest in the world."

Great article!
I have to disagree with the author's second sentence of the 1st paragraph. Telescopes do not look to the future, they look to the past. They see things as they appeared millions of light years ago.

What he means is NOT looking into the future, but as stated deeply (towards the end of it),it very clearly says "A TELESCOPE FOR THE FUTURE", as in it won't be completed very soon.
