Can anyone give me good news on the Tamaron 18-400mm, as a wakaround?

Do you mean, do you have to be awake to use it?
OOps! Didn't read after typing... just hit the enter button!
I guess my proofreading skills are somewhat lacking.
I've heard good things, but as a picture-making tool, not a weapon, so don't "wak" anybody.

Back in the old country, it was customary to hold the wake in the deceased's house. Food and especially alcohol would be plentiful. One popular wake story is some drunks at a wake sat the deceased, an elderly, prim woman, up and had her sit in for some poker. She won big.
Aahhh, good times.
Oh, and the lens? I'm not a fan of do everything lenses. But, wakes can be memorable.

That's the great thing about this group, not only do you get answers to your photography questions, you also get critiqued on your spelling, grammar, vocabulary, manners, and so much more. It's a real one-stop shopping site!

In my sometimes less than humble opinion.... I think it is up to you. The image quality may not make you the next Peter Lik, but if you just want shots that make YOU happy, then that may be a different story.
Lenses are big, long time investments. Everyone is different, and it's like asking the "Nikon vs. Canon" question. The best bet is to either go to a local camera store if they offer the service, or a good mail order lens rental place, and rent one for a few days, and use the heck out of it. You may fall in love with it, or you may think it would work better as a boat anchor. You do pay the cost of renting, but that's still better than buying a lens that sits in your case unused.
After all, there are many on this forum, who are perfectly happy using the kit 18x50 lens as a walk around. Only YOU will be able to answer the question on if it makes you happy as a walk around lens.
oonly you can decide how good a lens is, and only after you have used it a lot. I had a kit 18-70 mm sony dt and a sony 16-80mm ziess, both gave good images until the guts went south. it was a case of good and great glass, but disappointing build quality.

You could read the reviews on the B&H website. They are supposed to be written by folks who have actually bought and used this lens.
There have been countless good reviews from uhh members on the Tamron 18-400mm lens. I would suggest you do a uhh Search to see the many good reviews, and photos taken as well. It is also a bargained price zoom lens. But, it is only crop sensor formatted. Price is $649.

I have the Tamron 18-400mm for my Canon 80D. Have had it for about 6 months now and prior to that had the Tamron 16-300mm. If you truly have a need to have that much reach frequently for your walkaround lens I recommend it. The 16-300mm was very good and the 18-400mm is even better.
