I have a HP Photosmart all in one printer, this is not my main printer but it gets several printing jobs a month. My problem is that after about 4 months the printer will give me the expired cartridge date message every time I turn the printer on. There is plenty of ink in the cartridges but the date has expired on one of the cartridges. I am thinking of buying either an Epson 3640 or 4734 printer or a Canon 4 in 1 printer, do these have the same issues?
The warning is telling you that continuing to use old ink risks clogging the print heads. Inks (especially pigment inks) separate and dry out over time. So inkjet printers thrive on frequent use. Once opened, ink should be used up or discarded within six months.
BTW, I have an EPSON 3640. It is great for office use, but just okay for photo printing.

Does it stop you from printing? If not then print on.

Does the cartridge have an expiration date printed on the outside? The inks can clump after that date and kill the print head leading to potential loss of the printer. Also be sure to agitate the ink cartridge before inserting into the printer per the instructions.
