And this a problem or makes the work less?

Only from the POV that wasn't the photographer's original intent, Kris ....

I work both ways, and I do not consider most of my photographs to be "art".
If I know a location or have shot at an event or venue before I will have a number of precoceived shots in mind.

Sometimes, like on vacation to locations I have never been before I will take what I can get.
Sometimes I just take a walk in the park, with a camera.

All my pics are PP'd to get the best out out of what I have captured in the camera (raw files).

I too try to get the best possible shot I can at the the time of capture. The difference with me is that I am often shooting with the intention of doing a great deal of manipulation afterward.

You actually have that in mind, do you, Jim?

Before you make the shot?

And know exactly what you're going to do with it, too?

AMAZING!!!!

I suppose I also do a little of both, Richard ... Preconceived ideas ... and impromptu shots ... what I don't do is artwork in PP afterwards ....

Thanks for sharing these pics ... one or two are very impressive ....

Yes, well, BTBG ... you are comparing Photojournalism with Art achieved in a Photographic Method .... not really the same premise ....

I was making a point between Pre-Visualization (the tried and true Ansel Adams method) and serendipitous shooting, later changed into "art" via PP ...

My contention is that these are two very different forms of photography ... with the latter not specifically dependent on any kind of Pre-Visualization ....

You are right. I am comparing them because the best of photojournalism is art it's just done in a different way.

As far as making it into art in postprocessing, not my style.

Not mine, either, BTBG ....

Although, I have thought about it, many times ....

I have a nice little collection of lithographs ... I've often wondered if I could attempt to duplicate the style of the old masters, in photographs ....

It might well be fun, trying ....
