Busy Wkend with Grand Kids Sports

This was a busy wkend with my grandkids and their sports. Friday was grandsons girlfriends, basktball game, she's #11. Sat was another grandson's wrestling tournement and Sunday was granddaughters soccer scrimmage.
My camera is a Canon 7D mii with AWB set at flousent for inside the 2 gyms and overcast for the soccer game. For the basketball game I used my Sigma 70-200 f2.8. The wrestling tournement and soccer scrimmage I used my Sigma 18-250 f3.5. Shooting indoors with either lens I had to push my ISO to 12800 and 16000. To me, the pic's look good but if you enlarge too much you will get noise. I know that high ISO's will produce noise. Only PP done was cropping, #4 was tweeked with color temp and tint plus the heavyset coaches face has been blocked out in #6.

Question is, did I push my ISO too much to get the freeze frame shot? Alright guys, go for it.

Nice series! And always fun to shoot grandchildren. On the wrestling shots, any thoughts on maybe f4 and ISO 6400? (Would you trade DOF for lower noise?)

Very good series. I shoot grandchildren's volleyball, soccer, basketball and baseball with Canon 7D MII, 5D MIII, Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 and Canon f/2.8 24 - 70mm II. Frequently I used auto ISO and manual settings. Challenging venues, but fun!! For sure, lighting is the challenge. The 7D MII, auto focus system was a blessing.

Ya, been there, faced the challenge. Survived with lots of memories.

For the BB I would have opened up the DOF and lowered the shutter speed. You want to have more of the players involved / in focus. The ISO noise doesn't bother me. In my experience, 1/500 is usually satisfactory for BB. There is usually little action that requires a faster shutter, but your preferences may be different.

For the wrestling I would have closed down the DOF. Block out the spectators. Also, zoom into the wrestlers closer. And what happened to that coach's face?

Soccer often has faster action so I found a higher shutter is better. Being outside usually allows a faster shutter without pushing your ISO too high.

You got some nice shots there. Well, except for that coach's face.

Thanks for the comments. It's manual adjustments in training with the 7D mii and both lens here. Only had them for a couple months. Even though I had good cameras, I was lazy and set camera to program mode for all those yrs. Now with the grandkids getting faster in their sports, I need to stepup my game.
Cropping tighter on the wrestlers would of cut off legs or arms. The coaches face came out fine but I blouted it out for concerned for him. Didn't want people to trash him because of his size. I didn't realize he was in the shot til I was in PP. Was consentrating on the wrestlers. Maybe it was poor judgement on my part posting that pic, even though it was a dynamite shot. Thoughts; post or not to post photo #6?
