One light.
Cute kid and the expression is priceless!
Sometimes one light does the trick especially if you are in a room with light colored walls and there is a good deal of "unseen secondary light", that is, light form you main light bouncing around the room, Even if your flash has modeling lamps, it is not easily seen by our eyes but it is there.
This is also a case of broad lighting and the shadow on the far side of the face in minimal. In a short lighted situation, there would be more visible shadow area and a bit of fill may be in order.

Thank you, Ed. I did take a few in this session that I applied short lighting. They just did not turn out very well because I did not use a reflector or a secondary light source.
