I know I usually take my pictures from the kayak but yesterday I went to the Pee Dee Refuge close to the house to see if I could get some shots. The only thing I saw was a Red-headed Woodpecker.

Very nice. I have never seen one. Unfortunately they are getting scarce.

They are scarce in North Carolina but are found in some areas. There are a lot dead trees in the Pee Dee Refuge and they are found in the very top of the trees. Thanks for looking.

Great set, Roger, and have only seen one Red-headed Woodpecker in the twenty-some years that we have lived here. I've heard quite a bit about the Pee Dee river over the years, and if I remember correctly, the 0riginal words for the song," Way down upon the Swaney river" was originally written for the Pee Dee river!

That is interesting. I did not know that. Dams are close together on this stretch of the river and although I am on a lake with dams on both ends, the water is still moving like a river depending on the openings of each dam. Thanks for looking.
