Fantastic photos Bill! When there's plenty of light the D300 still is a great performer.

Same place as yesterday, with different birds. Still shooting the D300 w/500mm F/4.0
beautiful shots bill. love the red-belly shot!
Thanks all for taking the time to look and leave a comment.
Fran - Long lenses help. These were shot with a 500mm F4.0. I usually shoot at the widest aperture to allow for the highest shutter speed. I do some editing, typically cropping and some exposure adjustment.
Greg - The perches are placed near my one feeder. That brings the birds to me, but a more natural look than sitting on the feeder. The latest one I put there when I noticed the Red Belly at the feeder. I cut the branch from a downed tree, drilled a few holes in it that I fill with peanut butter, and stuck it in the ground. The garden they are in is outside my kitchen and garage windows. All these shots were taken from inside my garage where I can sit on a bar stool near a heater and watch a movie or read a book on my Kindle while waiting.

Very nice series with excellent backgrounds.
Beautiful, nicely presented.
Thanks guys, I'm glad you liked them.
I had been using the 200-500 F/5.6 a lot lately. This week I dug out the old 500 F4.0. I think the extra stop when shooting wide open made the backgrounds a little nicer.

Nice sets yesterday and today. Care to share the place? I'm not that far from DE.
