What causes the dark border?

Don, Bruce...... This is a copy of the photos in question. It's 4 separate photos. Just to show the black lines at the top. Has nothing to do with ( thru a window or TV screens, etc.)

it may be the mirror not going up all the way take lens off the camera put the camera in mirror lock up and lightly press up on it and see if it goes up a hair try this a few time taking it out of lock up press the shutter then put back in to mirror and do it again then take a few shot and see if its still there if it is then you know it the shutter all try taking a picture with mirror lock up after pressing up on the mirror .

Carl, it is really helpful to read the other responses.
You can learn a lot from them. I do.
As I said, it can't be a shadow from the mirror- that would show up on the bottom of the photos since the image is upside down at the focal plane.
Several of us, including a professional camera repairman, say it's the shutter.
