Calling all Arizonans

Hi,

I may be in southern Arizona in a few months for business. While touring northern Arizona is on my bucket list, it's not possible on this trip. Can anyone recommend any worthwhile places to photograph in the Tucson or Sierra Vista area?

Thanks,

Dan

These are all south of Tucson:
San Xavier Mission is close.
Toombstone
St. David
Bisbee
Kitt Peak Observatory
Old Tucson
University of Arizona
Sabino Canyon
Colossal Cave
Saguaro National Park
Tumacácori National Historical Park
Ramsey Canyon (Humming Birds)
Ft Bowie
A bit further:
Yuma with the Depot and Territorial Prison
There are tons of other places but these are easy to get to in any type of car.

There are numerous places just north of Tucson but would be good if you use Phoenix as a base.
But some are like the Casa Grande Ruins, Globe, Miami, Boyce Thompson Arboretum and others but from Tucson the southern ones make an excellent trip.

If Airplanes interest you at all, Pima Air Museum is very interesting. And the “Boneyard”. Over4000 Airplanes in open storage. Take the tours. I spent. Two days there a year ago and enjoyed immensely. Many Airplanes one of a kind. Best Wishes.

While you're in Sierra Vista, you can visit Fort Huachuca. It's pretty interesting and the oldest continual fort. Also, head east toward Bisbee, and just before the river turn south to see the San Pedro House. From there you can walk down to the river and spend time in the Conservancy. Don't know when you're coming, but it's beautiful in the spring.

You don't say what you're interested in but San Xavier Mission is good - not just outside but also in the courtyard and inside. For wildlife - Sweetwater wetlands is good. Ironically Sweetwater is the sewage treatment plant, but there are excellent birding opportunities there. I was just there two days ago and was treated to some wood ducks - at least five males and one female all swimming around together.

I want to thank everyone for their recomendations. Now, I have some research to do on google satelite and images to see what works. As rplain1 mentioned, I should have specified landscape and nature, and maybe even some stars.

Thanks....Dan

And, if you like old missions, Tumacacori is south on 19.

Add in: the Chiricahua National Monument and Faraway ranch
The Amerind Museum, Kartchner Caverns,
Pima Air & Space Museum

Bottom line? there is a whole lot to see and/or experience in southern Arizona
