Looking for suggestions for a versatile walk around lens in a moderate price range. Any great experiences?
Thanks

The Tamron 18-400 is a thought that several of us have pursued.

I personally use a Nikkor 28-300 as my general purpose lens on my D500 but I would think the Tamron 18-400 would be ideal for a decent, inexpensive walk around lens.

If you don't mind a short range the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 (27-52) is sharper than just about most zoom lenses and even some primes.

Somehow I always think of a walk around as a lens that has more focal length capabilities. Many folks started with 18-55 or so and are looking for more versatility, so perhaps my assumptions are without merit.

Walk around lens to me when I first got started was a 50mm on a 35mm SLR. In college we has assignments where we had to use a 'normal' lens. Today I will put the 35mm F/1.8 on a D7200. It would be the same on the D500, just a bit heavier.

Amazing how using a prime instead of a zoom makes you look at things a little more before you press the shutter button.

The Nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 DX VR lens is excellent. I have one that I use on my D7000 and D500. It's sharp, has great build quality and has one-half the distortion of Nikon's superzoom lenses. I stay away from superzoom lenses for that reason. They usually have a lot of barrel distortion at wide angle settings and a lot of pincushion distortion at long focal lengths.
