I was thinking about cameras that I have purchased and used through the years. And, I thought I'd make a "family photo" of the Minolta and Sony cameras. The photo itself isn't that hot, but it does show the family. Note the physical size increasing with the technology! The Sony A580 is actively used by my wife, but I currently use a Nikon D7100.
So, here is the my Minolta/Sony family photo (left to right):
Minolta SRT101 - Film camera circa 1970
Minolta 7000i - Film camera circa 1988
Sony A100 - Digital camera, circa 2006
Sony A580 - Digital camera, circa 2010
Dang, I remember when most 35mm cameras had a metal top. It didn't make them any faster but they did look sharp.
Ya, good times.
I have a similar "family tree"
- Canon TLB - film, 1975
- Canon A1 - film, 1982
- Nikon D70 - digital, 1994
- Nikon D4 - digital, 2012
Still own them all and the original Canon TLB still takes great pictures. Finding somewhere to develop the film is now the problem.

My father owned a Minolta SRT-101. What a fantastic 35mm film camera that was. I borrowed it occasionally. The A-100 was Sony's first DSLR. Now, Sony doesn't make DSLRs anymore. Only DSLTs and mirrorless cameras. Sony now has two mounts. A and E, and doing great right now.
