Looking at them, it must have an early morning start. Especially for the guy to the left of the Saxophone player.
Great snap.
Nothing wrong with that crew that a good Marine DI couldn't straighten out in a month or two. A few choice adjectives and some pushups and the would drill like a well oiled machine.
Thanks, everyone, for your comments. I think that I just caught them at a bad moment. They really are a pretty good marching band. I thought it made a good shot anyway.

This is a great back story shot. I see it as a moment of them being themselves in the minutes before they go off to perform.
As for the DI mention. I have seen many a military bands just prior to muster. I will say that some of them are just like this band. Even the Gyrenes.

I believe that you nailed the explanation.
Despite the imaginative descriptions given to this, is it really anything more than just a snapshot which anybody standing along the side of the street could have taken? Get out in front of them quickly as I always did when photographing parades of any soft or use a telephoto for close-up shots of individual band members. The empty area at the lower right contributes nothing.

Thanks for commenting. Your advice is appreciated.

meant. Too many of these contributors seem unable to critique their own pictures which is an
essential part of learning how to improve your photography or else they only want approval.
When I photographed the big & long Oktoberfest parade in Munich, I had a Press Pass and stood
on the street taking pictures of the different costumed groups as they came towards me. If you
don't qualify for such a Pass and it's a small town, ask a friendly policeman for permission.
