I have a Canon 20D. I'm using evaluative metering. How do I take a meter reading? I watched this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNrMb24pcqY

and at 2.02 minutes he takes a meter reading off the model's face. He has a Nikon. How do I take a meter reading with my camera? Is it just as simple as looking at the exposure meter?

Yes. Push the shutter halfway to make sure the meter is active, but that is about it.

Ok, thank you. I thought I was going to get a reading of what fstop I should use or something. I see now it's just a matter of what I dial in while in manual mode. Thanks for answering!

Don't you either have to hold the shutter 1/2 way down or use AE lock so the reading doesn't change when he moves the camera?

The OP just asked how to TAKE the reading. The rest is up to her/him/it.
the only practical way to do it is to read the meter, then set that reading in manually. Otherwise, what's the point? Walk back and use Aperture Priority anyway? :-)
