After considerable research I decided to upgrade from my canon T2i and ended up going to the 80D
(Against advice of a friend that insisted
I would be happier with ff)
I am anovice with many years of experience and must say am very pleased with the 80D
But-in spite of reaching out to various tutorials I must admit to being semi
Overwhelmed with the complexities
Of this puppy
So far uhh has been somewhat of a stimulus to attempt deeper delving into
Machinations of this complex acquisition
Like most people-my personal imagined
Abilities fall far short of the images
I see on uhh
This inspires me (at age 80) to improve
My knowledge and end pictures
Have most of Lens that I need-want-can afford - at least for now
TBC

If I know you were 80 I would have suggested the 77D.

Joking aside, if you can handle a T2, you can handle a 80D.

As a starting point, check YouTube for videos concerning the 80D. If certain ones don’t seem to catch your interest right away, drop them and try some others. Pay attention to whose presentations seem to make the most sense, start making a list. Not joking, I’d pick random topics and listen for terminology then look for those items in the manual. This is just a way of starting to become involved with the camera. Graduate to reading some reviews and notice what topics the reviewers key on. If you skip around at the start, it doesn’t have to get boring.

FYI
Have the 80D for dummies book
Plus 80d dvd how to
Plus
Have reviewed info (not all) on internet
Part of problem is erratic usage & failure
To do it right-even though I know what
I should be doing

Give yourself photo assignments, do them and review what went right and what went ‘less right’. Focus on why in both cases. It is different than film, but it’s not that different. Composition and lighting are essentially the same, tho a digital camera may approach them differently. Get in the habit of carrying your 80D all.the.time (and using it). Good news - no film and flashbulbs to run out of.

I just updated to the 80D from the T3i and love it. I’ve had to google a few things since the manual is so unclear but I’m loving it. Good luck to you.

Glad to have you aboard. I LOVE my 80D, I have many Canon cameras. AE1 A1 T5i
a couple of sureshots. And 6 lenses. If you hsve an older FD lenses you can get an adpater to the EOS mount from B&H im NYC. It won't work with all the elactronics, but works great on manual. I have a 500mm telephoto f/8 and it works great. The 80D is certainly the most complex. I have read several books and attended a few Canon classes(free). And as the saying goes...practice, practice and experiment. One feature I really like is its ability to shoot multiple shots on a single frame.. up to 10. Sure beats sandwiching in days ofthe old.
Good luck and enjoy you 80D.
Ron

Yo
You are spot on in attempting to
Wrestle with the complexities of the
80D
It is humiliating and challenging and fun
All in one fel swoop
