I would crop it as a Vertical and get rid of the dark green Foliage on the right.

Creep straight ahead 12 feet and get a clear shot of the river, orangey reeds, and white puffy things.

The first thing I would do is attempt to eliminate the
white feathers in the center of the picture. They are
a major distraction. If successful, you can make all
kinds of adjustments with LR.

To follow everyone above, make your shot simpler. There are too many elements in the shot; it's too busy.

I can't tell you how many photos I've tossed because my eyes focused on something and the camera showed me what I ignored.

Many thanks to everybody!!!
Great suggestions. Looks like the rule with photos is like with paintings....SIMPLIFY is the name of the game!
Your input is a really valuable lesson for me!

I don't have a problem with it . It looks natural on my photographer's monitor . I don't think photos like this are to busy . I guess I like a photo that tells a story as you look around inside the photo along with ones that don't . How do you feel about your photo ? Something about the area must of caught your eye to take it .

Hey QK, Welcome to the Hog. For me, IMO, there is no clear subject. If it's the ornamental grasses in the center they are lost in the scrub and dead center of the image. Study up on composition and subject isolation. Watch the light and time of day and adjust for it if you can or don't shot. Also if one pixel peeps, the image is soft. As already mentioned cutting through that clutter to get to the image of the water and mountain range would have been much better. With the use of a wide angle lens you could have set the ornamental grasses in your foreground to add depth and perspective to the image, leading the viewer's eye into the scene.

You could also play with shutter speed then to see the variations of sharp foreground features of the grasses versus allowing the slight movement to show motion against the sharp view in the background of the water and mountains. It's a journey, keep at it and have fun along the way. The Hog's a good place to learn and interact with others on their own journey, the one we all share. Now get back out there and shot...

Also have a focal point in mind. A good idea to take several shots with different focal points within and around the scene.

Shoot what attracted you first to the scene.

It's too busy to do anything with as a pure photo. Try using various filter effects in PP, maybe a watercolor effect. Go for an abstract maybe.

I thought the center needed to be highlighted and to me was the main subject and did that with vertical cropping. Over all it is a bit too busy and I would have wanted to move around from side to side and definitely forward. Used old time darkroom techniques of dodging and burning after opening in PSE camera raw adding recovery, blacks, clarity, and vibrance. Don't know if this is what you had in mind and for me if the photographer taking the shot is happy who cares what anyone else thinks. If you are not there when the shot is made you really don't know all that is there that guided the reason for the photograph or why it is taken the way it is.
