Took this shot Saturday at the San Rafael Criterium. I really have more respect for those guys who do this for a living!

Thanks, ironically this is one of fours shots I wanted to post but the other three will not post. Must say trying to shoot movement is a skill unto itself!

Great shot. The sign in the background gives context and the rider in front has tree trunks for legs.

There is a lesson in this shot. Notice the two lead bicyclists, and the pack behind them... all to the right of the frame. There is negative space to the left, and the lead riders are looking to it. This gives the motion of the still image a place to go. Composing so that the flow of motion "has a place to go" makes for a more successful image, and it is one of the compositional skills which moves a snapshot into the category of being a photograph.

Well done!

Great action shot, JBD. Having done my share of biking over the years, I can assure you these guys are true athletes.

Thank you all for the kind words regarding my shot. I wish I could say that all of the concepts of composition were at the forefront of my shooting that day, but just trying to lock AF -Servo on the rider and maintain the head to toe framing took all my concentration. Just goes to show that it is better to be lucky then good.
