This gives the motion of the still image a place to go. Composing so that the flow of motion "has a place to go" makes for a more successful image, and it is one of the compositional skills which moves a snapshot into the category of being a photograph.

Thank you all for the kind words regarding my shot. I wish I could say that all of the concepts of composition were at the forefront of my shooting that day, but just trying to lock AF -Servo on the rider and maintain the head to toe framing took all my concentration. Just goes to show that it is better to be lucky then good.
