The super blue blood moon setting over the Palos Verde hills in So Cal taken from the Huntington Beach pier. The max eclipse occurred about 5:30 in the morning. We didn't have a full eclipse but it was close. The moon set before sunrise while still partially in the earth's shadow. I was afraid that we were going to have a marine layer, which is common, that would have obscure the eclipse, but that didn't happen. Only a very light haze over the water as the sky began to brighten.
The other issue I didn't realize was the huge DR difference between light and dark part of then moon as it goes into and out of the eclipse. I could see all the details in the light and dark parts of the moon, but my camera couldn't. I did bracket, but I haven't looked at those images yet.

Looks like perfect exposure to me: hill visible, oil rig right on and the moon, well, the moon looks as it should. A very pleasant picture to look at.

and the bird right under the moon... serendipity at it's best.
Thanks for viewing. I could see the faint orange/red in the dark part of the moon as I was standing there. I couldn't eek the at out of the image as much as I tried. May be just my lack of PP skills. However, it was still a beautiful sight to watch. Glad you enjoyed.

Excellent shot.
Hi angler, glad you visited and enjoyed. Got lucky with the view since its often overcast here.
Thanks big-guy for viewing. Didn't have any idea the bird, a pelican, was there until I saw it in post. Just a little hidden benefit.
Cool shot Mike ...., I used to live in Huntington Beach off Bolsa Chica ...

Thanks Dr.Nikon for viewing. You probably know exactly where the shot was taken from, i.e. across from the lifeguard station. Did you have a chance to see the event from Hawaii?
Thanks for stopping by and viewing.
I like it a lot, Mike. I might clone-out the "fuzzy gull", but otherwise a wonderful image.
