Last year I Wet to the largest camera store in Orlando Florida. They had a used Nikon D500 on the shelf with very few clicks. Two sales guys said a customer bought the camera then quickly returned it for a Canon.

I bought the camera. It worked great. Two weeks ago I shipped it to Nikon Service in NY. After about two weeks I called Nikon regarding the status. I was told it’s Grey market and they will not service it and Nikon will ship it back to me.

I went to the camera store and talked to the manager. They played dumb but told me to bring it back and he will talk to the owner giving me his business card.

I told them I was not happy and would not have bought it if I had known it was Grey market camera. Told them I want them to take it back. Full refund and I’ll purchase a new D500.

Hope it works out. Blue tooth does not work. Not that I use the Bluetooth. I just don’t like the fact that it does not work.

I hope this works out for you. I hate to see people getting screwed by unsavory business people.

What’s sad it’s the best local store in Orlando. I’m gei Kng them a chance to work it out. They even have a weekend radio program on WDBO NEWS RADIO.

You grabbed that camera quickly, because you probably got a good deal on it. Only to find out it was gray market. I think the store you bought it from, already knew it was gray market?

Just curious, if it had low clicks on it then why did you send it to Nikon for service? It is true that Nikon won't work on any grey market product, which is why I'll never purchase one. Whenever I'm buying used it is the first question I ask.

The question I have is if Nikon USA will not repair it could it be sent to an overseas Nikon authorized repair center? If this were possible I would not mind buying grey market.

I'm guessing you can do that. Good question.

There are places here that will repair them. Gray market is no big deal if you are aware that it is.

Nikon sent me a list. Issue for me is the story the two sales guys told me about the camera when I bought it. It would have been nice if they had simply told me it was a grey market...

If the store didn't know it was gray market, it should have. I hope you get a full refund, but make sure they don't charge over list price for the new D500.

You made two points. 1) Canon will fix Gray market cameras and 2) Canon would have it fixed and returned in one week. That's why I only had one Nikon and shoot Canon ( 5DIV and 7DII+others)

Nikon will service selected gray market cameras.

Perhaps the first owner switched out the camera bought at the store with a grey market camera before returning it; customers can be cleverly deceptive too. But of course it is the store's responsibility to check the serial number when receiving returned cameras, to make sure it is in fact the same camera bought at the store, and selling it again.
