Has anyone had any luck using spotting scopes with their cameras? I have a promaster ultralight scope and am trying to use it with my sony alpha camera. I had some success with the camera and lens mounted to it but it had very little light getting to the sensor. Then I bought a T-mount for the camera and because the electronic sensor did not contact anything I couldn't get the camera to trip the shutter. So I thought I'd ask here, thanks for any suggestions.

Don't know about the sony DSLR's, but most of the SONY
DSLT's have in the menu" release W/O lens".
If you set this to release you can use a scope but will loose a lot of light. It does work on moon shots.
Just buy a used Minolta 75-300 D AF lens, they are good and a great price.
I just didn't think messing with a spotting scope or telescope was worth my time.
thanks for the responses, I looked up the post and was not surprised by what was posted there. I tried several ways and could not get any acceptable pics. I have the minolta 75 - 300mm macro lense and have tried a moon shot with it and a 2x tele-converter. The results were not that great but I am still experimenting with the camera, it's my first dslr.
Which Sony alpha do you have?
I got some pretty good shots of the moon with the 75-300
using F13 , ISO 320 @ 1/320
I have a Bausch and Lamb 60x spotting scope that I use on a Nikon D5100. I had the camera store to order me a special type ring to replace the end that was on the scope. It hooks up to the camera just like a set of lens. I have to shoot pictures in manual mode and the only thing the camera will let me set is shutter speed. If you have pretty good light it takes pretty fair pictures. You can take pictures a long way away with it.
GeneS, thanks for the info on the moon shot, I have the a230, which I got as a retirement gift. I was going to buy a camera on my own but when I got this I figured I'd better just use it and learn from something not too advanced. This camera has given me some surprising shots, but I'm still learning. I used to use a 35mm slr and a 35mm rangefinder.
