As you become more skilled an editor or customer will ask you to make PP changes to an image.
A knowledgeable person will provide you with a print which shows where and how the changes need to be made. The instructions you get may be brief or complex depending how the client imagines the print should look.

For this challenge we'll keep it relatively simple. Jpg only, no RAW file available.

Below is a sample instruction print which outlines what needs to be done. Improve it further in any way you want.

Do you have a raw image by any chance? The 'originals' are small.

Sorry, Rongnongno, no RAW file this time.

Note that since I know better than the 'client' I left the two closest trees as they were to prevent black blobs.

Here's a re-work of your shot. Maybe a little more than you asked for but I felt the additional changes made it better. Changes included adjustments in Levels, Hue-Saturation, burning and dodging the fence as well as stretching the canvas vertically and horizontally.

When I made changes as requested it made other areas look un-natural so I adjusted as needed to blend. Since this download was a jpg I had a lot of noise and artifacts. Tried to remove as much as possible without loosing detail.

Hi
I just did the sky and foreground, as directed, but the rest can use some work.

Good job, Rongnongno. As nice an image as you could wish for. Leaving the tree alone was the right decision. Easy five thumbs:

I follow your thinking, SonyA580. However your enthusiasm went a little too far. The foreground foliage needed to be darkened but not made solid black. Your dark areas should always contain details of what is there, in this scene the foliage. You gave it your best shot, which gets you four thumbs:

Welcome, s2090. Yep, I follow your thinking. As we can see your images failed to load to the page but were available on clicking download. I don't know why this happened, maybe your format set as 'smoky_mountains_2.jpgp.jpg' confused the upload option.
You know what's right and what's wrong with your image. You get three thumbs this time, I'm sure you'll do better.

Nice work indeed, Lloyd. All over a good job, you held the foliage above the center of the fence on the cusp of being too black but the detail is there. You knew when to stop. Well worth five thumbs:

Thanks Shakey,

Wow 5 thumbs up on first try.
As I mentioned I had a lot of trouble with the noise. For the sky I used a layer and removed noise with Noiseless Pro and it did a good job. When it was all done I noticed what I call artifact noise in the rest of the picture. I believe this type of noise was caused by the photo being small and a jpg. If I remember correctly the width was 8.33 or something.
I reduced the problem by increasing the photo size to around 18 inches keeping it at 300 dpi. I then added Gaussian Blur with a setting at about 2.0 just enough to remove the disturbing pattern. I then reduced the image to the original size and I think it looked fairly good.

Hope others mention what they are doing to fix troubling parts of these challenges. Would like to help others improve their Post Production process while learning new techniques myself.
