Back button focus issue with the D7200

My camera is set-up for back button focus. I have been pleased with this feature but made a troubling discovery this evening while taking shots of the moon. Using my wireless remote I set it for mirror up. What I was surprised to find out is that the camera re-focused when I pushed the remote a second time to take the picture. I had to turn off auto focus on the camera and lens after focusing and prior to taking the shot. Any suggestions? Is this normal?

I posted almost the same issue with my D7100 Jan 29. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-510647-1.html
My camera only losses focus when the viewfinder HUD display goes off and I press any button to display the Viewfinder info.

I believe it's the AF-C setting and I don't know why. Try changing to AF-S and see if this will correct the problem.

Hope you find a solution. It's driving me nuts.

If back button focus disables the shutter release from focusing I can't understand why this happens. I hope it is not an issue with the camera.

Yes. You should have the camera in manual focus anyway when doing astro, the moon in particular. I've had the same problem with refocusing which is why I used the wired remote when it is critical.

Yes it is normal, the remote also acts to focus a lens just like the half press of a shutter release. Set up your composition and your focus point, then set the camera and or lens to manual focus, check your focus adjust manually if needed, then take your shot.

It doesn't. You have to go into settings and set a half press of the shutter to not focus. No idea from memory where this option is though.

There is an option on the 7200 to set it to af on only in the custom menu, that will do the trick

I have my camera set for BBF and the remote NEVER changes the focus. That is the whole point of using BBF - the only way to adjust focus is to use that button. There are several things in the camera's menu that need to be set correctly - find them in the manual.

Check the menu settings for BBF. It is possible that you unintentionally changed one of them. The remote is NEVER supposed to change focus when everything is properly set for BBF. Check your manual - there are several different settings that need you to choose options for it to function properly.
