It's an age-old argument, isn't it - do heavy lenses (and cams) actually create stability, or do they bring their own kind of instability?

There is probably a break in the "traffic" or that's the end of the field so there will be a minute or two before they will be around again.
I do very little chimping. I would have been using a monopod as it helps with 150-500mm Sigma.

This is what they would be getting, if it is raining (which is good)

Richard ... what do they call these kinds of cars, anyway?

Sort of a miniature version of Formula One, aren't they?

Listen ... you shot the pics of the guys lined up behind the corner padding ... at what point in the race, was that, anyway?

Very colorful, Bill ....

"Are your arms held firmly against your body or do they flop around like a chicken running from the butcher block?"

I had no idea chickens even had arms ....

Chickens have smaller vocabularies, just like some UHH members; they call their arms and hands wings.

Oh, I see, Bill ... wondered what you were talking about, for a minute, there ...

Do they (the chickens) gesticulate, with these ... er ... flappable - appendages, then ... or do they just - run about (like a chicken, with its head cut off) .... ???

I think I just over-complicated the entire scenario, did I not?

They are formula Ford (historic) and are entry level race cars with 1600cc race engines. They are "relatively inexpensive" (for a race car).
That will towards the end of the race (which only last about 20 minutes) as the cars are spread out.

Formula 1 - car lots of $$$

Is this one of yours, Richard?

If so - where'd you shoot it? ... Here, or in Oz?

Didn't even realize they did Formula One Down Under ....

Yes, they ARE very expensive, aren't they?

The "WALL" then, you photographed with the four guys standing behind, adjusting their dig cams - was that near the finish line, then?

It's one of my images (I normally do not post other peoples images and if I do I will give credit(usually of me).
Shot on a demo day at Bathurst, Australiia
They do have one race, in Melbourne, during the F1 season.
No - the finish line is up around the curve + another ~1/2 KM in the main straight. We are on turn 8 for that particular track configuration.

Maybe he is looking down at a shot list or the race program.

The guy in the near court, wearing the orange vest, Richard?

He's got his right arm directly out to the side .... he's not looking at a race program ... he's making camera adjustments!!!

Amazing!!! ... And here I thought they only did Formula One races here at Indy, at home at Greenwood, and at Monte Carlo!!!

What's the excitement at Turn 8, Richard? ... Is that where racers sometimes lose control and fly off the track?

It appears you have no idea of motorport photography!!!!

Why shoot at turn 8, or any other turn for that matter, at certain times of the day?
With photography in general what are you looking for beside just capturing an image?

Maybe so, but his camera is on a Mono-Pod, so his arm isn't really taking the weight of the camera and lens.

No, Richard, I've never shot motorsport photography ....

Richard ... when I go out to shoot, I am looking for something unusual, which has never been photographed, before ....

Or, at the very least - I'm looking for an unusual way to capture something ... something out of the ordinary ....

After all, the heavier the gear, the more difficult it is to hold steady - right? ... No - you don't agree? ... Heavy hardware makes it easier to hold steady - are you sure?

I do not agree, usually heavier lenses are far easier to handheld, than really light ones! The heavier ones do suppress cameras shake, because they simply don't shake that easy! (of course there is a limit to that)! Like I really like shooting BIF with the 400/5.6, but if there is one thing I do not like about it, it's the weight, it is too light!
