I just get the above lens. I have a 2x extender, Canon, that I use with a Canon 70-200 2.8 lens. If I wanted an extender for the G2 can I use that one or do I need to get an extender made by Tamron? Thanks.
Tamron states that they built their own extenders to specifically match their lenses. Try the Canon extender first, but you may end up going with the Tamron extender to get the performance you want.

Try it. I am sure you will hate looking through a viewfinder that is F13. Dark and scary place. Oh, and you have to try and focus with that. Good luck.
Enjoy your lens, someday, when you are rich and famous and you have an extra $90K hanging around in between the sofa cushions, you'll buy one of these:
In the meantime enjoy your lens. The image quality will suffer with any TC, but the Tamron 1.4X is sorta ok, and it may autofocus with certain bodies that support focusing at F8.

There has not been a extender made that improves IQ. Plus the viewfinder will be dark and hard to manual focus. This lens is marginal at best, putting a 2X extender is not the way to go.

A good way to degrade the image quality and performance of any slow lens is to put an extender on it. Unless you have low standards avoid them altogether on all but the fastest long lenses.
Forget the extender, the G2 is a good sharp lens, at least my copy is, just shoot and crop, you'll be much happier with the IQ.
I agree. Skip the extender. I also have this lens, as does my wife and we both love it. My Nikon D800 has a 36 megapixel sensor, so cropping can replace an extender.
I have the 150-600 G2 and was told that the canon extender will not work on the G2. I looked up on Cannon and the G2 wasn’t on their compatibility list. I ended up renting a Tamron 1.4 from LensRental for the weekend just to try the converter out.
I captured this image with the early version of that lens in the summer of 2015 at a local wildlife refuge. The Tamron Tailgate crew had a deal with our local camera shop, and we were allowed to 'borrow' whatever lens we wanted, and I chose the 150-600. This photo won second prize in the park's annual photo contest. I think you will really enjoy your purchase, good luck!
