A Wide Angle Walk in the Woods

I've owned Tokina's 11-20mm 2.8 DX Pro for a several months and have mostly kept it in my bag, thinking of it as a nice little (even novel) tool for architectural or random indoor, no-flash shoots. Then I visited my local forest, carrying said lens, and when I downloaded the pix to my Mac, I was blown away by the DoF and sharpness of this undervalued (by me) piece of glass. I'm interested in your opinions and experiences with this lens. I have a sense there's a lot of potential I've yet to consider.
Thanks.

Hey rjay, it was a big surprise to me. I'd like to pretend the lens was the result of much research, trial & error. Not!
Thanks.

I always carry a Nikkor 10-24mm DX lens for my D800. You haven't even touched the possibilities a super wide lens gives you. Play with it. You will be amazed!

Thanks. As I said, I'm already amazed and just beginning to think about the possibilities. Just to satisfy my curiosity, you obviously get good results using a DX lens on your D800? I have a number of FX lenses for my D7100 but thought the other way around wasn't a good fit.

The Nikon FX cameras can use both FX and DX lenses. The menu has three options; FX only, DX only or Auto, where the camera automatically senses the type of lens and adjusts accordingly. On my 36Mp D800 a DX lens gives me about a 17Mp image, since only a portion of the sensor is used.

Succinct. I'm moving to FX soon and had thought I'd be selling the Tokina. Now there's the possibility of new life for the little guy.
Thanks.
