Watermarking

Hello all,

I have been unprofessionally photographing the world since highschool back in the days of film and darkrooms. I have semi progressed with the times to a full frame dslr but have not purchased post production software such as Photoshop or Lightroom.
My question is this, is it possible to watermark my photos without such software?
The reason I ask is I do upload my photos on to sites such as UHH and Flickr and shutter at the thought of someone taking my photos and making them their own.
Thank you in advance for your replies and let me know which software, in your opinion, is the best for the buck.

I thank you in advance for your replies

Yes, It's fairly easy. I created a watermark brush tool in PE 10 that works great.

I use Picasa. It's free and easy, just use the tool in "export".
I know the feeling. I shot a race a few weeks ago, the online magazine I shoot for had my photos up on Monday, and by Tuesday I found 10 images stolen.

I shoot photos for a web magazine. Anyone can right click, then "save image as". Then just crop the water mark off. Some photogs selling photos online have the watermark across the center of the image, but thats too distracting for me.

Sample. Took about 30 seconds in Picasa.

This is a popular question because people don't want their things stolen. Surprise! Surprise! Unfortunately, it is all too easy to right-click and save the image, as someone already said. It's not very difficult to remove a watermark.

What you can do is post a small, lower quality image so that it will not be useful when taken from the web. Others can elaborate on this.

Right Jerry just downsize the picture, save it and then whenever a person wants to copy it they can EXCEPT when they try to expand or enlarge it the picture will bfe distorted and odf no use to them. Good thinking.
