I have purchased used from B&H, Adorama, Nikon and KEH. All good, all as expected. Sometimes, refurbished from Nikon is really demo equipment. I have been very happy. No hesitations whatsoever. Best of luck.

I have had the same positive experience with refurb purchases as reported above by cjc2.

Nikon does not reset shutter counts on their cameras. Even after a shutter replacement. If you do get a Nikon refurbished camera, get it from a reputable photo shop that is authorized to sell Nikon Gear. Stay away from 42nd Street Photo Shop. www.nikonshuttercount.com

I know Adorama and B&H carries refurbished before but the ones they both list now are not. I'm just going to call and find out if they can tell me the details.
I just might drive out there to see, its always nice to go looking in the store.
Thanks for all replies.

I would buy from a store and let them have the profit. You will probably get a better price, too. Try Cameta. The shutter count is not reset, but dealers are not going to unbox, setup, shoot, and then tell you the count. They would have to do that with all refurbs in their stock because customers would want the camera with the lowest count.

I bought a Nikon refurb from Cameta last year and was very pleased. Arrived in a matter of days, in perfect condition with shutter count of 223.

No; buy from an authorized dealer like Cameta Camera who usually includes a 1 year warranty.

A walk around B&H will be worth the trip.

Of course a round trip will cost you more than you will save by buying a refurb. In fact, once you step inside B&H you will probably spend a lot more.

Enjoy!

As long as you purchase factory refurbished, you should be OK. I have gotten bodies with as low as 14 clicks on the shutter and as high as 1300. Cameta adds to the 90 day Nikon USA warranty to give you a year of coverage. Adorama, B&H, Cameta, Nikon USA, and Beach Camera all handle factory authorized refurbished units, and there are probably others out there. Prices can vary by retailer so check out the sites. A few years ago, I bought a factory refurbished Nikkor 24-120 f/4 lens for $589 from one authorized Nikon retailer that had it for over $200 less than another. It pays to do your homework.

If you want to buy a Nikon Why wouldn't you have faith in buying something from a Nikon store?? In what way do you feel Nikon is going to "scam" you??

I purchased a referb D810 from Cameta when referbs were first released. As it was, it was the last one that Cameta had of their assigned allotment. When it arrived it had 1500 shots on it. After talking with Cameta, they said I could return it and wait for the next allotment or receive a refund. They thought that might take 3 or more months. Since no one else had them, I chose to keep it. That was at least two years ago and have not regretted. It has not done anything to this point that it wasn't designed to do. Nikon factory referbs are the only way I buy cameras.
