A usually reliable source is reporting that the next camera to be released by Pentax will be the FF K-1ii, not the long-awaited APS-C K-3iii. Users are speculating that the 36mp sensor used in the K-1 may be going out of production, forcing Pentax's hand. Does anyone know for certain which FF sensors are still being produced by Sony?
Three Sony Full Frame cameras that I am aware of, use their 42 megapixels sensor. They are the a99ii, a7rii, and the newest one, the a7riii. The last two are mirrorless. The first, a99ii is a Translucent Mirror version. I read an article, but don't remember the source, that Nikon wanted this Sony sensor for its D850. But Sony said no. Nikon decided on the 45.7 megapixels sensor instead. No sure if Nikon's 45.7 megapixels sensor is actually a Sony sensor? The Pentax K-1, Pentax's first Full Frame camera, has a Sony 36 megapixels sensor. Perhaps the same as in the Nikon D810.
The sensor inside the D850 is made by TowerJazz.

Thanks. I never heard of Tower Jazz, but who hasn't heard of Panasonic. A 51%/49% ownership deal was apparently made by both companies. A friend told me just yesterday, that Sony couldn't provide sensors to Nikon, because of the earthquakes in Japan that halted production. Who knows?

Sensors are no problem. There is plenty of sensors manufacturers that can make sensors for this new camera. Sony is only one of many that Pentax could be contracting for new sensors.

Rumor has it, that the upcoming Nikon D760, if there is one, will have the same sensor as the D810, 36 megapixels. That would be 12 megapixels more than the current D750..I read a previous New Camera Website email today, that Pentax's upcoming K-1ii is predicting at least a 45 megapixels sensor. Not the Sony 36 megapixels sensor, that is in the current Pentax K-1.
