http://www.phantomfilmschool.com/Have you ever got in trouble because of your drone?
I don’t like getting in trouble…
And this is kind of a controversial topic, because even if we like drones so much…
Most people get annoyed if you fly over them or over their houses…
Or some of them are just scared of them…
And we all know how that feels…
Today I am going to show you ‘The 6 Fundamentals Rules of a Good Drone Etiquette’
Let’s dive into it
RULE #1: Don't fly over people:
Nothing gets people more upset than a drone flying over them. It creates a sense of invasion as well as fear that it could fall and hurt them. Try sticking to a good amount of horizontal separation from people such as 30 to 50 meters (of course
this is totally different when doing a legal shoot over people that has been arranged & the people have opted into this fact)
RULE #2: Don’t fly around people’s homes & windows
this gets people really mad...
They always think they are being spied on & even it that is not your intention…
If you make people angry they will go to the regulator & you risk harsh rules being put in place
RULE #3: Don’t fly too early
Seriously.
Drones are noisy & waking up your neighbours with a buzzing drone is also going to risk creating problems.
By all means, fly early to catch the golden hour when you are not near people…
...but avoid this when you risk waking people up
RULE #4: Only fly with FPV goggles far away from people
Quick story for you:
I was at the park & this pilot was flying a racing drone FPV…
He was totally immersed and was flying it around really fast...
The big issue has he had no situational awareness & had no idea a bunch of people were waiting impatiently to cross the path which he had decided was a good place to fly around.
If you wear goggles & fly racing drones really fast please stay very FAR away from people
RULE #5: Only get on an aeroplane with drained batteries
For everyone’s safety never check your batteries in your main luggage & please drain them right down so they have minimal voltage
RULE #6: Don’t get defensive
If someone comes up and starts asking you questions…
Or asks you to go away - it's far easier to be polite and move away.
The general public is our biggest risk because if they turn against us, we will be heavily regulated.
So always be polite, professional and keep the public happy
I hope those 6 rules helped you become a better citizen and pilot and remember:
“Be a good citizen and keep the public happy!”
Happy flying
