It is never my intention to shock or offend. I have a life long interest in birds of prey and capturing a moment like this is what keeps me going out there. I posted a less explicit set of this bird last week but held off on these, so viewer beware. This is how raptors make their living and I felt very fortunate to be there. These were taken at the Calif. State Refuge Gray Lodge in the northern Sacramento valley.

Excellent photos. Birds of prey often get the weak or sick that prevents continued suffering. That needs to be recognized.

I had to get over the unease when I started photographing birds, especially hawks. The worst for me was watching a hawk catch and slowly kill a Virginia Rail, a bird I rarely get to see.
