Does anyone have advice or plans for a shutter tester. I have a need to check a lot of shutters. It is nearly as bad as my tire problem, I have so many tires it is difficult to keep them all full.
I have seen plans for a photocell and flashlight schematic that you plug into the audio input of a computer and watch the shutter 'opening and closing' as a sound file.
I know Roger Hicks has written that shutters can be 20% off time and still be within some spec.
I click a lot of shutters at the 1 second setting and just count out loud one thousand one. That seems to work for 1 second, but faster speeds are impossible.
I found a deceased collector's stash of shutters with lenses and he had left them all set at 1 second. Must have been his test point also.
I am talking about checking 100's of shutters.
Thanks for the link! I have seen this eBay store before. He has several shutter tester versions. All fairly cheap with shipping costing nearly what his product does. Strange how I can order camera stuff from Hong Kong or China and shipping is often free. Today I ordered off eBay a 2 way camera bubble level for $2 delivered. I do not understand how China does that.
Let's see what else the UHH community comes up with!
Thanks again!

Randy,
If this guy can build a tester, I see no reason why you shouldn't be able t make your own. You may need an o-scope to calibrate it, but you sound like a resourceful person.

Just found a schematic and parts list:

Now that is more like it.
I can build that. Heck I made my own pirate radio station in 1966 at age 14.
Thanks.

Let me know how it works.
I will, but don't be in a hurry. I am not. I am one of those people with an endless list, that keeps getting bigger.

Don't forget to be extra critical of your light source...
