Hi Everyone ,
I have a canon G11 which is very very good ,
But it does have its limitations .

I'm seriously thinking of upgrading to the Canon G7X Mk 11.
It has excellent reviews ..

What I need is a Semi professional compact for everyday / walk around use .

The Points Im not happy with on the G7 are firstly.
It has a touch screen .. all menu options ar done on the touch screen.
Ive never had this before as Im so used to clicking my options .

Is there a down fall to this method ?

The Camera is very Tiny !
This I find may be a Hindrance .

No viewfinder!
I can prob do without / though could come in handy at some times .

No hotshoe !
Not really a problem as Most hotshoes these days will
only work properly is one buys a very expensive dedicated flash.

Anyone got one of these cameras ?

You didn't mention your price range. If you're not on too limited a budget, you might consider a mirrorless, like the Panasonic GX8. I own one and it is a technical marvel. You can choose how you want to set it up, with or without touchscreen. It has multi-axis shake reduction and shoots video in 4K. But it will set you back a fair amount. With a kit lens, it can be as much as about $1,500.00.

I find a pop up viewfinder of little use most days, but now and then its a must! I am using the Sony RX100 IV and love it! Its an all in one and very small, but has great IQ and a pop up EVF.

The Fujifilm X100F is a compact camera with a 24mp APS-C sensor. It has a viewfinder that can be used as optical, electronic, or a hybrid of both.

In answer, divide a sheet of paper in half lengthwise. On the left put GOOD, and on the right put BAD. List
the good points and the bad points. If the bad outweighs the good, well, look for another camera, because if you buy this one, you will never be satisfied.

I considered buying a G7x, but decided not to based on its very small physical size, the not-so ergonomic size and layout of its controls and the lack of a viewfinder. I concluded it was a nitch camera aimed at cell phone users. Canon makes fine cameras, I suggest you look at some of their other models, including their mirrorless models. /Ralph

Its an all in one and very small, but has great IQ and a pop up EVF, it also shoots in RAW. I have captured some amazing photographs with this camera. It does not have a touch screen, fits in my pocket and goes anywhere. My only complaint is that the menu takes a little to get used to. Oh BTW it is mirrorless, and the screen is adjustable for those low or high shots. Not cheap about $1000 new but I purchased mine used at B&H for 600 and they are probably a little less now (used).

After reading your original post, if I had been interested in this camera you would have changed my mind.

There are things you can do without, but why should you if you don't have to. Keep looking.

Instead of the Canon G7X Mk II, get the original Canon G7. It has both hot shoe and viewfinder!

You don't need a dedicated flash to use the hot shoe on most cameras available today.

I have the Canon GX7 Mark II. I love it. Also, once you have a touch screen you'll always want one. This camera shoots raw, is easy to use, I couldn't be happier. Great travel camera.

I have always questioned the phrase "Semi professional compact ". Just what is a semi professional. For instance, would you go to a semi professional doctor, dentist, or surgeon? It is basically a marketing phrase camera companies love to use. If you plan to make money using this camera, DON"T BUY IT. If, on the other hand, you want it to take sharp pictures for yourself and family, that camera will do that for you.
