We received phone alerts of a large fire a couple blocks south of us. I walked down and found several buildings on fire, including one that houses my friend's business. One of the busineses was a carpet outlet and nasty, acrid smoke started pouring out causing the firefighters to don oxygen facemasks. All this was purportedly was caused by shorting electrical lines from a power pole outside one of the businesses. I shot over a hundred frames and had a tough time deciding which ones to post.

Was it Carpet Mania? Facebook post from a contact that lives nearby had this weather radar shot of the smoke plume

Thanks TriX. I hated to see all those small businesses go up in flames.

Thanks Snappy, I told my friend that watching this was like watching my house being swallowed by flood waters 10 years ago. All you can do is watch.

They're all terrific shots but the third one is exceptional!

Having spent 30 years as a professional firefighter, I’ll say #3 is a keeper. Seen many images shot at fires & that one’s great. Given the framing of the shot may not be so but looks like poor tactics for most effective fire suppression. Sorry about your friend’s business.

I do too - I’ve had a fire, and there was nothing left but memories. My oldest son is a fire chief, and I shared the link with him (with the admonition not to reproduce or copy the shot).

Thank you Katydid. Firefighters were lucky the weather had warmed up, so that freezing was not a problem.
