Have you worked on a computer that is newer than 4 yrs old? Things have gotten a bit faster. . . Just sayin'

The current cpu's can clock to 3.8 gHz or faster, and the NVMe drives are at least 4x faster than the SATA drive in that old clunker.

Thank you all. Helpful info. I’m not too worried about storage space and I do need portability so I’m leaning toward a 13” Mac book pro. I can put google photos on that more easily than putting Apple products on a pc. And now I have to decide which is my cutest grand child for the discount process!!

Yes. Our current machines use SSD drives not the old SATA (hated those drives), which make a HUGE difference. Our company is due to replace all our MBP's this year, however our current machines run the Adobe CC full suite just fine, with only a few hiccups here and there. We're on about a 3 year replacement cycle. For the most part they've all been reliable. Of the 15 MPB's in our office, knock on wood, only one has had minor problems, but was covered by Apple care.

You have external drives or plan to buy them?

My laptop was in for repair for a week and I had to use my wife's Apple computer in the meantime. I can't tell you how happy I was to get back to Windows 10.

And probably how happy your wife was to have her computer back.

Nice computer, but he still needs to buy a hard drive - 512gb is not enough. And it's already $150 over budget.

At $1,409? I thought his budget was $1,500? I guess I misread. A 1T external HD can be had for well under $100. And the XPS outperforms similarly priced Apple products.
