Well, they cut him off from what was a source of income for 2 decades. It might be business, but also very personal.

Kinda my point. If there wasn’t some sour grapes involved, why announce it? It feeds the idea that it really IS the camera—not the photographer—because I seriously doubt anyone would have looked at his photos taken after his switch and noticed any qualitative difference. Seems like a “look at me Oprah moment”.

It's a shot against Canon. If it sounds right it's probably right. Start some fake news.

After reading the blog I'm of the opinion he found better tools for his craft. It happens. I have a non-photography related business that undergoes paradigm shifts about once/twice a decade, and routinely I find myself leaving a tried-and-true vendor for a new provider whose products help me do my job better. In each case I usually check to see if "tried-and-true" has equal, or better coming down the pike before making the shift.

Some of you appear to know this gentleman fairly well, so if there's a true personal conflict between him you would know better than the rest of us. Me? His comment that were he still an EoL, and had found the Nikon to be better then he might have been tempted to switch speaks volumes. True professionals always want to do better. For that we have to appreciate his honesty, and his allowing us in on his thought patterns concerning what must have been a tough switch.

If it was only the equipment, why go into detail about Canon no longer giving him any work, to the point of naming names?

I read that he is selling all his Canon equipment.

Nikon has 3 good reasons for Canon photographers to switch to Nikon. They are called Nikon D500, Nikon D5 and Nikon D850. Some or all of this must be his reason to do so.

I'm getting my wife a new good stove. She is a good cook but I can make her a great cook with a better stove. It make sense to me.

I'm an OK cook, But when I get my 120 megapixel range with a 32K video oven....look out.

OK, there is no video oven, But there was a video toaster.

You have a point. And, I can see this from either direction: 1) He's carrying a grudge over being dropped, and made a very public switch, or 2) He felt the need to include the background info for those, such as I, who prior to this thread had no clue regarding him, or his art. The background info solidified his being married to Canon, and why he never strayed.

I think sometimes we make to much of being married to one brand, or another. I get tickled at how passionate some on UHH are about "their" brand. I'm currently using 3 Nikon bodies after years of exclusive Olympus use. Back when my income was generated from photography alone (the good ol' film days) Olympus bodies were my go-to, but every so often I'd pick up another brand's "just out" body and 50mm just for the fun of using something else. With no internet it was fun to make my own comparisons. During that time I also kept a Nikon, and Canon body in my arsenal since most newspapers kept extreme lenses of either brand on hand for sports, or special assignments. These days it's just too cost prohibitive, and I no longer have access to additional lenses. I truly miss getting to handle other brands.

I don't get religious over brands, I shoot Pentax as that's where I started with 35mm SLRs and was able to keep my investment in "glass" (of course some at manual focus!) and I'm used to the bodies I use. I don't assume that everyone else is wrong. Same with cars (I have a GM and a Chrysler product.) I also use Windows and Linux mostly, but I have a (almost vintage 😉) MacBook kickin' around.

Never got into the whole "Coke/Pepsi" - "Ford-Chevy" wars - Damned silly.

Nikon,Canon, Pentax, Sony, Olympus and Panasonic all make good (...and occasionally not so good) cameras. It's a personal choice.

I shoot with Nikon only because I always used Nikon. But I would be happy with Canon or Nikon. Most sports photographers use Canon because they say Canon lens focus faster than Nikon.

I began this post because I was interested. I really appreciate all the interest and ideas expressed.

I do not have a lot of fellow photographers to exchange views with.

If you read his update you would understand it's not all brand loyalty :)

I started this post before his update. Seems UHH have filled me in. Thanks for your blunt response.

That was not directed at you LightBender. That was directed at JPL a dedicated Nikon fanboy.
