Sponsorship deal?
He just wanted to try something different?
He got tired of being corrected for spelling Canon with two n's?

We will find out tomorrow! Actually, today is tomorrow, so we should find out soon.

Interesting wording. Is he shopping for a bargain? Maybe we should tell him about 42nd St Photo.

Nikon has gone to a separate operating chip just for focusing. Nikon has put it on the D5, D500, and the D850. It is extremely fast and extremely accurate.

It should be the results rather than the configuration as Canon's top models also have dedicated processors for the AF system.

I was trying to be nice but it appears the Nikon version of a separate focusing engine is quite superior to Canon's.

He has answered the question in his blog this morning. After losing almost all support from Canon he recognized that Nikon has better auto focus for birds in flight.

Simply because they can.

But really who cares? Nikon folks defend theirs; Canon folks defend theirs. I thought it was about the photographer. I would wager if Arthur Morris didn’t announce it— no one would notice. It’s not like some viewer suddenly says to him/herself: “Hmmmm. I wonder when good old Arthur starting using a Nikon.”

I switched from Pentax to Canon in 1995 because of the EF lenses. I switched from Canon back to Pentax in 2015 because of the bodies. Those of us who have relatively small investments in lenses can make switches like that fairly readily. Those with a bigger investment can switch as long as only a few do it, so the market for their used equipment remains strong. Canon can still lean on their 30 years of EF lenses, but they need to put some serious effort into bodies.

OK. I still don’t get why he made a big deal of it. Perhaps it’s just an “Oprah moment”....

That’s probably why this guy is doing it. I don’t know who he is, but if he’s a big enough name, there’s probably some company monetary incentive behind it. I have a friend who’s a professional (he makes his living photographing), and he recently said that he’s not big enough to get factory backing like some of his other pro friends do, so it does happen.

Jaymatt, he's a big name. He was an Explorer of Light for 18 years. I believe there are only 100 in the world at any one time holding that title. He's world renowned in avian photography.
