Got back into town a few days ago from Kauai. Beautiful weather, beautiful place. WasnâÃÂÃÂt able to capture many images, though. On our first morning, Sherry and I visited a remote beach, mainly to use our time wisely before going to COSTCO for provisions. We were walking along the beach for about 30 minutes when I decided to cut across a formation of eroded lava rocks, rather than walking around. I managed to do a face plant on the razor sharp rocks with my D810 in hand. Welp, I fucked my zoom 24-120 lens, luckily sparing the $150 polarizer and the glass itself. However, had to go to the ER, a 6.5 hour ordeal. Twelve stitches in my left hand and an avulsion fracture of my right index finger and many cuts that were not stitch-able. Screw me. I couldnâÃÂÃÂt even hold my camera for the first seven days. It still worked with a glitch in the zoom mechanism, but I couldn't pick it up. So no photos. I was able to use it after that time, but only awkwardly and sporadically. Have to pack it up and ship it back to Nikon.
Still, we had a great time. Well, maybe sub-great, but we made the most out of it.

It is always the side stories that make our trips memorable! Now you have an excuse to go back.
Absolutely awesome. Really like that waterfall!

OUCH! I wish you a speedy and total recovery and it sounds that things could have been worse for the camera/lens combo. I have an old snapshot print that I digitized of my wife as the only person on the beautiful beach in Kauai where they filmed the movie
"Bali Hai", fond memories. Nice photos of the canyon you took too. Cheers, chase
That is some adventure. These two images, at least, show part of your good time. Nice job.

Ouch! A few good photos, though!
I love that waterfall shot.
I feel for you, Rick. Kauai was one of my favorite trips. Now that you have seen how beautiful it is, I hope that you heal completely and can get back there with healthy camera as well.
Is it really necessary to use profanity to get your story across???
Probably not. On the other hand, have you been to Kauai and been unable to take photos of all the amazing beauty there? I coulda done without the "F-bomb", too. But that had to have been, not only a painful experience, but also an amazingly frustrating one, particularly if it was a "trip-of-a-lifetime." I can cut Rick a little slack.
Very nice ..., in my back yard ...

Those two images are beautiful, Rick, but so sorry to hear about your misfortunes, and hope that you recover completely and quickly!
Sorry about your mishap, wish you a speedy recovery. I like your images very much, especially the second one. I had a similar experience about 50 years ago, while hiking in Garibaldi Park in British Colombia. I was changing the film in my little Leica it fell out of my hand into a fast running creek, never to be seen again.
The rest of my hiking days was like walking with one leg, no camera.

No. Sorry. I thought I changed that word.
Thanks, sorry to hear of your injury, and I did enjoy the pictures. Heal fast and get well soon, Rick.
