Trying to paint in areas of a lighter layer over a darker layer:
Created black layer mask on the lighter layer.
When I click the brush tool and open the panel to select a brush the highlighted icon in the main panel jumps down to the clone tool.
Difficult to explain... I may have to video the screen.
An hour ago the brush tool was working fine. Did I click something unknowingly?
Usually this because the layer you want to paint on is not properly selected... Check if the layer has a the four corners highlighted. If not, where the highlight is.
I do not know what you are trying to do but it sounds like you need to use a blank layer, set the mode to 'blend if' and paint away in a non destructive manner. Once done, use a mask to correct what is not needed...
The room was a bit dark. Natural light I overexposed a frame to pull highlights from. Using pencil tool I outlined the lampshades, made a mask and blended on to background layer.
Err... Is it possible that you are trying to paint on a vector image (pencil tool) and forgot to rasterize the layer?
Not sure. When I was trying to paint white onto a black mask the brush function was switching itself to clone when I was trying to adjust brush. Using the pencil to create a mask worked.
I'm running errands. Will teboot and try again this afternoon.
