Hi folks, I've been following UHH for several years but this is my first post. My brother and I are doing a photo trip to Death Valley the third week in February. We will be there for about 4 days and nights, and hope to shoot sunrise, sunset and hopefully some night shooting. I'm interested in any and all suggestions for locations (will fly into Las Vegas and be driving from there). Also interested in any other tips folks might have. Thanks in advance.

Mesquite Dunes near Stovepipe Wells are good at sunrise or sunset (low light).

Leaving Vegas on 160 you will drive through Red Rock National Conservation area very photogenic. 190 is the main road in DV, If staying at Furnace Creek they have handouts showing all the hot spots. Scotty's Castle is not to be missed. Not enough rain for a super bloom, but you should get a few great "Desert blooms". If you are very lucky you may capture the Mojave varient of the Western Pond turtle.

Welcome to UHH. Have a very memorable trip with your brother and capture some great images. I have not done the trip but do have an Ansel Adams of Death Valley. Consider converting some of your images to Black and White

Check if Scotty’s Castle is reopened yet before driving up there. If you do the big crater (forget the name) is on the way.

A little early for the flowers.

I was there last Feb. Scotty's Castle was closed, to reopen in 2019. Artists Drive and several other roads were closed. Should be open now/soon. Dantes View is a great morning location, as is Badwater. If you drive up to the Ubehebe craters, you may want to continue on to the Racetrack. It's a bone-jarring 27mi drive but the playa is really cool and there is a nice Joshua tree forest on the way. Try to get to Lone Pine. The Alabama Hills look cool with the Sierras as a background.

Love this post as my husband and I are going to Vegas and Death Valley at the end of Feb, too! Staying two nights at Stovepipe and planning on going to Red Rock Canyon on the way, also. Looking forward to using my Nikon 10-24 for dramatic landscapes.

Much of the good stuff has been covered in earlier replies. I would say that the sand dunes by Stovepipe Wells are best in the early morning, especially after a windy night although you do not want it windy when you go (tough on equipment and you). Otherwise, there will be more people and lots of footprints on the dunes. Allow enough time to walk and through the dunes to pick out your spot(s) as it is further than it looks, maybe an hour before sunrise.
